Birchwood Laboratories, a manufacturer of medical products, sporting goods, and provider of contract packaging services, still relied on a home-grown iSeries (AS/400) system to run their businesses. When retirements began to cut into Birchwood’s IT resources, they turned to JDB Associates to ramp up and help support their remaining internal resources. Since all of their software was internally developed, JDB’s consultants had to learn on the fly leveraging their decades of business systems and technical support experience to provide support for Birchwood’s many systems.
When Birchwood Labs decided it was time to sell the sporting good business, they used JDB to oversee the creation of a brand new entity and to clone and modify the systems to support this new business entity and JDB was hired to provide applications system support. With no on-staff application development resources at the new Birchwood Casey entity, JDB was instrumental in supporting this new business and the tens of thousands of lines of custom code that ran it. From EDI to warehousing systems, payroll and accounting, and even a new web site (www.birchwoodcasey.com), JDB provided Birchwood with one stop for all of their IT support needs – from the latest in Web technology to legacy applications that were older than most of the people working on them.
